Excersus CXVIII: The Slight Disadvantage of Unchecked Hedonism
I am currently up to my elbows in neuroscience papers by way of trying to catch myself up on what has developed in the
field since I last made an attempt to catch myself up a decade ago, and it is a strange state to be in. Knowing too
much about why you want what you want on a chemical level can be a profoundly disembodying experience bordering on paralysis
if you don't balance it out with Other Things. Which is an interesting idea in and of itself - I'm curious to know what
other atheists have felt on the subject: Since you know that joy is a chemical gimmick and existence a transient affair, how
do you motivate yourself to get out and Do Things? I have my answer, but I want to hear what you think. Write to CountDolby@gmail.com
and I'll print the best answers in next week's episode!
